ARLIS/NA NE in Lowell

On Friday, May 8, the ARLIS/NA New England Chapter held our spring meeting in Lowell, MA. It was a blast!

We kicked things off with a business meeting, where we discussed upcoming ARLIS/NA NE events (including our Art Documentation Twitter chat, coming soon on May 26!) and shared institutional news.

We then met with Sean Thibodeau, Coordinator of Community Planning at the Pollard Memorial Library. Sean gave a wonderful and informative presentation about Lowell’s history and how it has transformed into a hub for artists and others in creative professions.

Sean then gave us a tour of the absolutely gorgeous Pollard building. Words can’t do it justice, so please enjoy this slide show:

After lunch (shoutout to Fuse Bistro!) we visited the American Textile History Museum, where Librarian Jane Ward spoke about the museum’s history and shared some amazing items from their archive including letters from mill workers, 19th century time cards, and a teeny tiny pair of pants (you had to be there). We also met with Todd Smith, Director of Institutional Advancement, and learned more about how the museum supports historical research.

Thank you to Sean, Jane, Todd, and everyone who joined us in Lowell!
